A dedicated Covers Timber & Builders Merchants employee has gone the extra mile – quite literally – to support men and families affected by prostate cancer.
Phillip Payne, who works at Covers’ Tunbridge Wells branch, set out to walk 30 miles throughout January to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. The disease now affects 1 in 8 men in the UK, making fundraising efforts like Phillip’s crucial for lifesaving research and support services.
Not only did Phillip complete the challenge – he absolutely smashed it, walking a total of 84 miles over the month, almost three times his original target. His fundraising goal was £500, and with support from friends, family, and customers, he raised £340. Thanks to Covers’ match funding scheme, the company doubled the amount raised, bringing Phillip’s final total to £680.
Speaking about the challenge, Phillip said:
“It’s a cause that’s really close to my heart, and I’m grateful to everyone who supported me. I didn’t expect to end up walking 84 miles, but once I got started, I just kept going! I’m really proud to have raised money for Prostate Cancer UK and thankful to Covers for backing me with their match funding.”
Jamie Carter, Covers Tunbridge Wells branch manager, added:
“We’re incredibly proud of Phillip for going above and beyond in support of Prostate Cancer UK. At Covers, we’re always keen to support causes that matter to our staff, and our match funding scheme is one of the ways we help make their efforts go even further.”
